Go Chic With Orange & Pink!

Hello, everyone!

I'm so happy to be here with you at Pink Peony Style with a guest post from Arcadian Home. It's a wonderful place to find lots of interior design inspiration including decorating ideas for everything from fabulous foyer lights to colorful home accessories and much more. Today we're going to have fun exploring some of the many possibilities of decorating with a lively color, brilliant orange and pink.  Please enjoy!
Danya, thanks for letting me stop by to share. ~ Mari

  This modern tabletop vignette of pure white and metallic gold is set against bold swaths of color. Isn't orange and pick a great design choice for art in a contemporary or modern space?

  A white living room is amped up with a melon-toned pink and brilliant orange. A traditional light fixture is turned into a modern pendant light with color. Long fringed shawls add a splash of orange to white slip-covered chairs.

  Sometimes we long for just a pop or two of color in a white space. Here, in a tabletop vignette that's done with three books, one each in hot pink, warm sand and bright orange. It's a great look.

  This amazingly colorful eclectic bedroom goes orange and pink with toile wallpaper in a Chinoiserie pattern. It makes for a wonderful background for the lovely mix of styles, patterns and colors in the space.

  A lovely pink hue adorns the walls of this contemporary bath. Pops of orange and melon work beautifully, but it would be so easy to change out the towels for an entirely new color scheme.

  A comfy neutral sectional gets wonderful splashes of pink, orange and golden yellow with a lovely array of decorative pillows.

  A wonderful custom-built white daybed with floral upholstered back is at once chic and comfortable. I love the use of several stylish orange and pink combinationsófloral, stripes and zigzags.

  This girl's bedroom is so pretty in pink and orange. Kids lamps like the one seen here are available right now in lots of popular colors. I love the branches and birds design. It even has a bird finial on top. How cool is the ladybug table?

Decor : Layering

I don't know about you, but I'm totally loving natural blonde/grey colored woods - especially in the dining room.  These neutral woods make for such a perfect background to display multiple textures and colors.

Layering a room is so important - curtains, rugs, chairs, wall colors, accent pieces, lighting - when all of these elements are well thought through and nicely assembled, a room can fully come to life.

These dining rooms are a perfect example of layering.  The largest pieces {the dining table} and the walls are neutral, while the fabrics and accessories are colorful and the lighting eye-catching.

What do you think?  Are you a fan of layering, or do the rooms in your home just "happen"?

I have a great line up of posts to share next week and a beautiful guest post from Arcadian Home, so be sure to check back soon.

Also, I would like to introduce you to my newest partner Amy from Amy Grace.  She likes to blog about her favorite makeup products and life events.

Happy Memorial Weekend Friends!
Enjoy your time off ~

Decor : Reese Witherspoon's Ojai Escape

My latest issue of Elle Decor has been sitting all lonely on my kitchen counter, just waiting to be adored.  I finally had a moment to show her some love and I found these beautiful photos of Reese Witherspoon's Ojai {just north of Los Angeles} home.

So rustic, so elegant, so livable.

I love all of the home's natural elements - from the wood beams, the abundance of natural light, and the beautiful attention paid to architectural detail.  What a special home!

Take a look...

{The above room is my favorite - I love the archway, the cute little closed and the pink accents against various hues of white.}

{What a fabulous place for a family brunch!}

Head to ElleDecor to read more about the home's history, the story behind the decor elements and see the other beautiful photos.

Home : DIY Terrariums

So you know those cute little succulent terrariums we're seeing all over Pinterest these days?  Well, I couldn't resist making one {or three} for myself.  Who doesn't love a pretty little plant pristinely layered in a pretty little jar?

This was such an easy and quick project, but I learned a few things along the way and thought I'd share...

You'll need :
- A jar {mason jars are adorable, or fancy jars/vases work, fish bowls are cute too!  I recycled a few salsa jars and found a fun fancy one at Marshalls.}
- Pebbles {found at a home improvement store or a pet store if you want different colors}
- Soil {make sure it's suitable for succulents}
- Activated Charcoal {found in pet stores, in the fish department - activated carbon is the same thing}
- Spagnum Moss {optional, also found at a home improvement store}
- An Assortment of Succulents {cuttings will work too, if you already have succulents around your yard. Cut them, trim the leaves around the base of the cutting and lay out to dry for 2-3 days.}
     - Rooting Hormone {home improvement store - but only needed if using succulent cuttings}

{ignore the bobby pins, those were for another project}
Assemble :
  1. Clean your jar and make sure no soaps or chemicals remain.
  2. Layer in this order :
    1. Pebbles
    2. Activated Charcoal
    3. Soil
  3. Now you're ready to arrange your darling succulents - if using a cutting, dip the tip in water and then coat in rooting hormone before planting.
  4. Top with moss.
You have a terrarium!  Easy right?

{layer}

{dip}

{arrange}

{voila!}

I will say this little project can get expensive if you don't have many of these things on hand.  I suggest going halvsies with a friend and doing it together - you'll most likely have plenty of supplies to make several terrariums.  Plus projects are better with girlfriends anyway, right?

Link up if you have made terrariums in the past...would love to see!

I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have as well {if I can}. :)

Happy planting!!

Home : Pretty Little Supplies

I don't know about you, but as a kid the larger than life "Back 2 School" posters were terrifying to see mounted from the rafters in my local Target and Walmart, but despite my fear of returning to prison school, my heart did do a little dance when I remembered we would soon be supply shopping.

The glorious aisles glistened with brightly colored markers and crayons, Lisa Frank folders and trapper keepers {remember those?  I cherished mine!}, binders and pencil pouches, scissors and glue, rulers and erasers, lined paper and construction paper, lunch boxes and backpacks, the list goes on.  I was in heaven.

Long gone are the days of supply shopping, but not much has changed when it comes to my affinity for beautiful stationery, brightly colored pens, pretty stamps or decorated tape.  Who says you can't have beautiful office supplies??
