2013 Adventures!

Hi Friends,

So 2013 has many new things for us already!

Remember that little flood we had last fall?  Well, since then we've been on the hunt for a new place to call home here on the West Coast.  After much praying and much much searching, we've finally found our new apartment and we moved in over the weekend!  I can't wait to share photos with you once it's a little more unpacked and complete - until then here is a pic from my instagram.

Aside from the apt hunt, I've taken on some other things as well.  One of them being an opportunity to volunteer weekly at our local pregnancy center.  It's been such a different ministry for me to dive into, but one I'm excited to be part of.

AND if that's not enough, I'm exploring a new and exciting business venture!  {More on that later.}

With that said, we've been a bit busy over here and PinkPeonyStyle has been a little neglected *sad face*.  But with a pretty new apartment to decorate and a new design project for a client underway, I'm excited to share my fav design projects and inspirations with you over the next few months!

So tell me - has 2013 been full of change for you as well??

Looking forward to posting again soon!

XOXO

Decor : Reese Witherspoon's Ojai Escape

My latest issue of Elle Decor has been sitting all lonely on my kitchen counter, just waiting to be adored.  I finally had a moment to show her some love and I found these beautiful photos of Reese Witherspoon's Ojai {just north of Los Angeles} home.

So rustic, so elegant, so livable.

I love all of the home's natural elements - from the wood beams, the abundance of natural light, and the beautiful attention paid to architectural detail.  What a special home!

Take a look...

{The above room is my favorite - I love the archway, the cute little closed and the pink accents against various hues of white.}

{What a fabulous place for a family brunch!}

Head to ElleDecor to read more about the home's history, the story behind the decor elements and see the other beautiful photos.

Heart : Engaged

So last Tuesday, I randomly declared as "No TV Tuesday."  I don't think hubby and I watch a terrible amount of television, but when we need to unwind at the end of the day, we easily tune everything out and veg in front of our favorite shows.

In honor of "No TV Tuesday" we decided to take Blakely for a walk to get froyo at our favorite yogurt shop downtown.  It didn't exactly end up being the peaceful walk I had hoped it would be {I forgot it was market night and dogs aren't allowed & hubby got stung by a bee on the way - ha!}, but we came away with funny stories, a great memory and I feel it set the tone for how we spent our time together during the week to come.  We were engaged.

It's so easy to tune people out and not really hear them.  We're great talkers & doers but not so great listeners.  I know I'm guilty of instagramming, tweeting or e-mailing while half listening to hubby's day, or while catching up on the phone with family.  Not only do I miss out on half of the conversation, but I'm missing out on an opportunity to enjoy these precious relationships.

This weekend was wonderful as the "no tv" trend continued.  Hubby and I went for a run together {well, he left me in the dust actually...haha I trailed behind - these Cali hills get me!} along this beach....

And then we decided to take advantage of the sunshine and have a picnic lunch in the park....

{my gfree organic turkey sandwich - yum!}

{so much sunshine!}

We did our grocery shopping together, we did dinner, a movie and card games with sweet friends and we showed hubby's sister and boyfriend around Monterey.  It was a packed weekend {and I'm a bit exhausted - still} but it was so nice to truly engage in the life that lays before me.

I think "No TV Tuesday" just may become a weekly occurrence in our home!  I encourage you to give it a try. :)

{Blakely's pooped too!}

Lots of love....

Oh Sunshine!

I have to say it's been exceptionally beautiful here on the central west coast, and I don't mind a bit!  Sunshine is just medicine to my soul!

I had a peek of the new PPS website yesterday and it's beautiful, if I do say so myself!  I cannot wait to share it with you, dear friends.  I'm also excited to introduce you to my lovely contributors in the very near future.  A super group of girls is forming and PPS is about to explode with greatness!  :)

Here's a taste of my day....lots of love!

{My apartment was lacking florals today, so I picked up these beauties for the coffee table.}

{Spring has arrived!!  Leafy green salads & Crimson Iced Tea on the lunch menu today.}

{ Happy to see sunshine! }

Easter Recap

Good afternoon dear readers!

I so hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend.  We certainly did.  While it was busy, it was wonderful.

You didn't hear from me all last week because from sun up to sun down, I was scrambling to complete our new Calvary West building.  I had the privilege of transforming a large multi-purpose room into a beautiful and welcoming video sanctuary.  {I promise, before and after pics are coming.  I'm still adding a few finishing touches to the place.}  Easter Sunday was the launch of Calvary West and it was a hit!  We had a few bugs to work out during our first service {unfortunately}, but our second service was full - we had to bring in extra chairs.  Nothing warms my heart more, than to see (1) a FULL sanctuary, with people still streaming in & (2) people enjoy a space I created.

Here are a few weekend photos I snapped on my iPhone....

{Driving around town today....it's a bit gloomy}

Our Life Group is having a potluck dinner tonight and I need to come up with a yummy gfree side, so I better get to it!  I would love to hear about your Easter.

Lots of love...

Home Sweet Home

Ahh home....  Just a few days away can make a girl appreciate her apartment.

We had a lovely weekend away - enjoyed the conference, saw friends and family, soaked up the sunshine, and now we're home.  Home and back to our Monday activities.

Here are a few photos from the trip....I didn't get many, as we were pretty busy.

Life In Full Bloom

Hi Friends,

It's Monday and I feel I'm still adjusting to the time change...its a silly thing, isn't it?  We had a wonderful weekend - hiking, exploring more of the California Coast and worshipping with our friends at Calvary Monterey.  I wrote this post over the weekend and wanted to share it with you this morning. Hope it encourages your heart on this sleepy Monday.  Lots of love....

"Bloom where you're planted."  I've heard the phrase many times, but it took on a different meaning a few days ago, as I sat in my dining room, gazing at a vase of fresh cut flowers I had just purchased from the market.

If you know me, you know that I adore flowers.  I worked at a flower shop in high school and I quickly learned to make all sorts of things with the delicate blooms - corsages, boutonnieres, fresh arrangements, funeral sprays, wedding bouquets, etc.  I loved it!  As an employee at the shop, I had to take a few classes on floral arranging.  I learned things such as how to properly cut and prepare the flowers before using them, how to feed and nurture them before adding them to an arrangement, how to pair one flower with another so that they both shine, how to arrange them so that each flower is seen and every bloom has the space to expand to it's fullest, and how to keep each bloom from overshadowing another.  You see, when you put together an arrangement of just cut flowers, chances are, the blooms are still tight - they haven't opened completely.  If cared for properly, each bloom will open and expand.  One by one, petals will unfold, showing the world all it has to offer - layers of color, texture, and smell.

I found beautiful pink ranunculus and orange anemones at the market for $5 a bunch.  I couldn't resist.  They seem to grow easily here on the West Coast; you rarely see them in Florida.  If you do, they are at least $5 a stem.  Eeesh!  Anyhow, I came home and arranged them in a pitcher of fresh water.  I cut each stem carefully and cleanly, giving it a specific length and a designated place in the vase.  Happy with my creation, I sat the arrangement on the coffee table and walked away.  It was almost 2:00 and I still hadn't had lunch, so I pulled out left overs and sat down to eat.  The apartment was quiet.  Sun was brightly shining through the windows and Blakely was sitting at my feet.  Enjoying the peace, my eyes fixed themselves on the flowers.  Already the blooms were beginning to open.  Somehow they were more beautiful now than just a few moments ago.  Bright pink petals were becoming more relaxed as they began to settle into their new home.

{Day 1}

I feel much like these flowers.  Plucked out of my home and placed in a totally new environment.  Prepared, pruned and arranged in such a way that will allow me to grow into my fullest potential.  Paired with a man who will encourage me to shine.  Hydrated & sun-fed so that I may grow strong.  Strategically placed so that I will expand.  And layer by delicate layer, I'm blooming into all that I was made to be - revealing God's perfect design.  Bursting with color and layers of intricate textures, emitting a sweet, sweet fragrance and exploding with life!

{Day 2}

I'm not saying that I've arrived, but I can feel I'm getting closer.  This time last year, I was very much in that seedling process - going through painful growth spurts and pruning sessions.  God has done SO much in my heart over the past few years, and looking at that beautiful vase of God made flowers gave me hope that I am headed towards beauty in the fullest.

{Day 3}

Friends, be encouraged.  You too have a place in this world.  Bloom where you're planted and know that beauty is the end result of a life sought after Him.

Turquoise Bilss

Spring is so close, I can almost feel it! In Florida, spring comes and goes all too quickly {usually, only lasting a few weeks}.  It's the most glorious time of year.  The breeze drifts over the ocean and into the small beach town, the flowers are in full bloom, the trees are greener than green, the white sands are glistening and the ocean is a sparkling turquoise - more inviting than bath water.  But here in Monterey, I have a feeling spring is going to be very different.  The weather seems to vary from day to day.  One day it's cold and foggy, the next its warm and sunny and then the following it's sunny with a biting wind blowing off the Monterey Bay.  I like the variety.  Its more variety than I ever had at home, but it's a bit confusing.  The Florida girl in me just wants to pull out my beach bag and a good book and head to the beach, but that probably won't be happening till my trip home in May.

Anyhow, today was on the warmer side {I was actually able to run with a mere tank top and forgo the sweatshirt}, my skin was overjoyed to feel the sun kissing it, to say the least.  It brought back sweet memories of days relaxing on the white sands of the Gulf of Mexico.  Just thinking of all that turquoise water made me anxious to see blue of any shade!  So what do I do in a moment like that?  Shop!  {Well, I haven't committed to any purchases just yet cause hubby has us on a budget, but hey! My birthday is in two weeks??}

I found the most lovely turquoise heels and a fabulous clutch to go with.  All you need is a white tank, a great pair of denim, and wavy locks - you're golden!

{Sorry it's blurry...it came from Pinterest and it served as my inspiration for my turquoise hunt}

Oh Sister!

Sadly, sister fun is over till May.  We dropped her off at the airport this morning and as we drove away, I felt the sting of distance.  Having her here for the past two weeks has really made me long for my family.  In Florida, I was just a few streets down from them.  Now, I'm a $600 plane ticket and a full 10 hr travel day away.  It puts a lump in my throat.  Hubby and I are so so so grateful for all of the wonderful opportunities that have come from this move, and we're so confident that this is what we've been praying for, but it's not easy.

On a more positive note, we did SO much while she was here!  I was finally able to play tourist with someone {hubby is working lots and still adjusting to his new schedule}.  Here are a few photos from our adventures....
