Les Miz, San Fran & GFree Heaven!

Hi Friends,

Hope you had a lovely weekend.  Our little trip to San Francisco was great!  However, it was off to a rocky start - Thurs night I had some sort of nasty tummy bug and hubby woke up the next morning with his back out.  We were quite the pair!  But we pushed through and decided to head to SF despite our ailments. I'm so glad we did!  We both ended up feeling better and had a wonderful time.

Les Miserables was amazing.  The cast was incredibly talented and the set design was stunning.  What a great night!  We grabbed dinner before the show at a cute little restaurant a few blocks away from the theater called Soluna - I had a seriously delicious gfree Grilled Chicken Risotto and hubby had a steak.  Yummy!

Our day in the city was so much fun - it was a beautiful day - sunshine and all!  We did lots of walking and eating of course.  I fell in love with a gluten free bakery called Mariposa - amazing!  I'm kicking myself now for not stocking up on some of their goods.  I will most certainly be back.  And we got to experience a cup of coffee from the popular Blue Bottle.

See for yourself...

{Meet Olive & Bella - my sister-in-law's babies.  Oh those eyes!}

{Mariposa - I'm seriously in LOVE!}

{My breakfast sandwich - gfree roll with cream cheese, smoked salmon, sprouts and red onion.  I'm salivating just thinking about this...}

{Bay Bridge - what a gorgeous day we had!}

{Back home with my baby...our evening stroll around the lake.}

Thanks for wishing us a nice weekend - it was nice indeed.  Looking forward to the posts to come this week.

Welcome to new friends/readers.  So happy to have you visit PPS!  I'm pretty good about commenting back, so if you leave something, come back within a day or so and see what I had to say back!

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Home Sweet Home

Ahh home....  Just a few days away can make a girl appreciate her apartment.

We had a lovely weekend away - enjoyed the conference, saw friends and family, soaked up the sunshine, and now we're home.  Home and back to our Monday activities.

Here are a few photos from the trip....I didn't get many, as we were pretty busy.

{In Newport Beach, Casey's Cupcakes from Cupcake Wars..I had a yummy gfree red velvet}

{A drive through Beverly Hills while in LA.  Ummm, I could definitely live here!
If only I could afford it....}

{Beautiful drive home through mountains and hills.}

{A happy Blakely...he has his mommy's lap again.}

{One more...I just can't help myself.}

Well, that's all I have for tonight.  Looking forward to the week ahead and Easter this weekend!

Goodnight Friends....

From Coast to Coast....

We made it!  Today marks one week of being California residents and it's also hubby's first day at his new job.  It's a bit surreal we're here. I don't know that the magnitude of what we've done will hit me for a few more weeks.  Oh. My. Goodness.

I did manage to pick up some sort of flu bug while in transit and was feeling pretty cruddy for the first few days.  (Flu + living out of a suitcase + emotions at an all time high = one hot mess of a girl)  Hubby took great care of me though, and Blakely was one sweet snuggly pup; I'm happy to say I've recovered.

The past few days have been filled with house hunting.  I knew shopping for a place to rent would be stressful and even a little depressing, considering housing is sooooo much more expensive on this coast, but nothing could have prepared me for just HOW expensive and tiny housing is here.  Our first few days of this were just sad - we found that most landlords don't allow pets, and if they do, you pay a pretty penny to keep that furry friend under your roof.  (Which is a little confusing, cause this is one dog friendly area.  Most shops have dog bowls and treats outside their front door, and some allow pets inside their businesses.)  Saturday our spirits were lifted - we found a great little apartment complex just 5 minutes away from downtown Monterey and just off the interstate for easy access to hubby's work.  And guess what??  They take pets!  We applied for the apartment yesterday and are hoping to hear back from them today or tomorrow.

While I'm thrilled we finally found something clean, close to budget and pet friendly, I have to say I'm still a bit shocked.  We came from a beautiful 1,666 sq ft home in FL and (if all goes well) we're headed to a 600 sq ft apartment.  Talk about an adjustment!  My wheels are turning - I've been scouring the internet for tips on decorating and making the most of small living spaces.  Any tips, hints or suggestions from seasoned small space dwellers, or interior designers are welcomed & appreciated.

Blakely's dying to be walked, but here are a few pics from our last few days home in Florida.  Monterey pics coming soon, I promise.

Monday Procrastination...

Whew!  What a fabulous weekend away hubby and I had (in ATL)!  From amazing restaurants and shopping to inspiring museums, we squeezed just about as much as our little eyes and feet could take in between a Friday and a Sunday.  If you follow PPS on twitter, you may have caught a glimpse of some of our weekend fun.  I have to say that a packed trip makes for a sweet homecoming.

I don't know about you, but I'm one of those girls who hates packing and just loathes unpacking.  So today has been one of those "catch up on laundry, unpack?, no bathe the pup & vacuum the floors, unpack?, but I have to rehearse my music oh yeah and unpack (how about tomorrow?)" kind of days.  I've done just about everything but unpacking that suitcase.  Oh well, at least I've been productive in other areas.

So Thanksgiving is in 10 days!  TEN days, can you believe it?!  I'm really looking forward to sharing some of my favorite holiday table setting ideas with you and a few yummy recipes too!  Check back this week and lets hope that my unpacking will be done by then.  :)

Daily Snap & Vacay Recap

Hello friends!

We've returned from our most lovely Monterey, Ca vacay. The trip was a whirlwind, but we got to see old friends and enjoy new sights, restaurants and shops. It's always refreshing to get away, no matter the length of time. Here are a few snapshots of our adventures....

In-N-Out makes a mean gfree burger!

BFF! Love this girl to pieces!

The Boys...no caption needed....

"A moment on the lips is eternity on the hips" but oh so worth it!! (I'm still working these off!)

Gfree 1/2 Hawaiian, 1/2 Sweet Bar-b-que pizza - love love LOVE!

So we ate a lot. That's what you do on vacay right??

And now it's Monday - back to the daily grind. I thought I'd get out of the house today and catch up on some work at my local sbux. Working on a fun post, so check back soon! Happy Monday!

xoxo,

Edit // So I did this post on my phone and for some reason the pics posted all blurry.  Sorry about that....

Summer Must-Haves and Current Events...

I'm a terrible blogger....I know.  I'll have a good week of several posts and then you won't hear from me for months.  My absence hasn't been due to laziness - that's for sure!  Summer has arrived (in case you haven't set foot outside in the past month) and life is in full swing.

Since my last post, I've traveled to the west coast and participated in an event that is near and dear to my heart - a Wonderfully Made Conference, vacationed with my husband and family to the beautiful Rosemary Beach (just before the tourists hit - woohoo), survived a Collyer family reunion (my husband is one of eight children if that gives you any idea of the size of his family :), and have been assisting my hubby in planning next week's Mission Week + Youth Conference for the high school youth group he is currently pastoring.  Can you say crazy month??  Needless to say, I haven't had much time for hobbies - ie. design and decor.  So instead of sharing my latest inspiration (or lack of), I thought I'd share some of the neat things I've enjoyed/discovered over the past few weeks along with some of the things that will get me through the hot, humid summer ahead.  Hope you enjoy!  Would love to hear what your summer must-haves are, please share....

This was a quaint little book store that just opened in downtown Rosemary Beach.  B & I spent a few hours perusing their book collection and enjoying the down time.  The owner & staff were as friendly as they come. :)

Frozen Yogurt

This cool treat was something I looked forward to daily during my stay in Arroyo Grande, CA.  Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt is everywhere along the West Coast.  We're still catching on here, on the Gulf Coast; but for those who are local, we do have a few shops in Destin (32 degrees & Twirl) and rumor has it, we'll have a few in Pensacola very soon.  :)  My favorite is the Classic Tart (or Euro Tart in Cali) with strawberries, kiwi, chocolate chips and marshmallows....

This bag was a birthday gift a few months ago, but was a real trooper during my recent travels.  Not only is it super cute, but it's durable and holds a TON!  It's padded and lined with a soft fabric inside and has two pockets outside with a durable plastic covering of some sort.  Also has tough handles for toting all of those cute summer dresses and wedges. ;)  I did everything I could to avoid checking a bag while flying cross country, and this bag was perfect.  It also toted all of my essentials during my Rosemary stay and will be accompanying me to St. Pete this weekend during our youth conference.  :)

This wins for best (and most inexpensive) summer investment, by far!  I recently purchased a pair of Goody Spin Pins and I'm in love.  Each box comes with a pack of two spiraled pins that do the work of many bobby pins without the hassle.  I have medium-length hair and they easily keep my hair in place (Even during an intense workout. I put them to the test during last week's bootcamp).  They retail at about $6 for a set of two, come in two different shades & sizes to match your hair's length and color, and can be purchased at most convenience stores.

Old Navy's Perfect Shorts

I'm always searching for a pair of comfy shorts that aren't too tight, short or loose around the waist, but I hit the jackpot this weekend at my local Old Navy.  They truly have the "perfect short" - normally $20, they were on sale for $12 and had a great selection of colors and lengths.  I couldn't resist the mustard pair I walked out with - they're a perfect fit, soft (97% cotton) & long enough to not feel exposed (5" inseam).   Head to your local store to find them - the online store doesn't seem to have the sale or the color selection they had in-store this weekend.

And lastly...my new Moleskine Recipe Journal

I LOVE this!
I've recently discovered that I can no longer eat gluten, and I often find myself frustrated come 4:00pm as I scour the internet for gluten free recipes and dinner ideas.  Yes, I have a few gf recipe books, but they don't always guarantee a quick, easy and yummy dinner.  I stumbled upon the Moleskine Recipe Journal during our stay in Rosemary and just knew I had to make it part of my kitchen book collection.  I've already begun to fill it with favorite recipes old and new with my gluten free substitutions.  My days of frustration are coming to an end.  Of course, this would have been great prior to my gf diet, as I have scattered recipes on printed paper, cards from wedding showers and favorite cook books - this ensures they're neatly kept in one place and all the changes, suggestions and adaptations can be noted to your liking.

Anthropologie Lust

I have yet to come across someone who doesn't just LOVE Anthropologie.  I don't know about you, but I can't help but be overwhelmed with inspiration the moment I step foot into one of their stores - something about it is just so creative and organic, comforting and welcoming, functional yet beautiful all the same time.  My dream job would be to travel the world and find the pieces that grace their window displays and catalog shoots.  I once read an article (I believe it was in Elle Decor Magazine) about the man who does just that - he literally gets paid to travel the most unique and exotic places throughout the world in search of those one-of-a-kind pieces that their store is brimming with.  What a job!

Here are a few of my favorite outfits, accessories, & furnishings from their March 2011 online catalog.  Hope this inspires you today as much as it did me!
