Shop for Pensacola

Many of you know that earlier this week, my hometown Pensacola, FL, was hit by a huge storm and unexpectedly left many many families displaced, roads washed away, homes and businesses destroyed and priceless family valuables in ruins.

Thankfully our families have been spared and their homes are dry.  However, the home the hubs and I lived in (and the church we called home) prior to CA was flooded as well as most of our neighbors.  It will take years to rebuild the community.

In a small effort to help those in need, I'm dedicating ALL of my personal Chloe + Isabel proceeds during the month of May to families in need.  Shop using this link (important to use this specific link) and share with your friends. On June 5th, all proceeds collected will be turned into gift cards and sent to families who have been displaced.

If jewelry isn't your thing, visit one of the links below to give to friends who could use the financial help.

Fashion Friday : Summer Trend - The Chevron Print

One  of the hottest prints this season is the Chevron print. This zig zag print is showing up on everything from couch pillows to blouses to throw rugs. Seen from the runways to gas stations and everywhere in between! If you do not already own at least one item in Chevron print, you should. This print is versatile and flattering on almost every body type.

For the warmer summer weather try a dress, cut just above the knee, in a bright color. The longer sleeves on this LaPosh dress will also carry you into Autumn and beyond without being too heavy for summer.

Another idea: Pair a Chevron print blouse with bright colored trousers and large, chunky jewelry. This combines several summer trends without looking like you are “trying to hard”. If you are wearing an oversized blouse, be sure to pair it with slim cut pants, so as not to add extra bulk to your outfit! Try Chevron shaped rings and bracelets to add pizzazz to your outfit.

A fabulous way to rock the Chevron print is with an amazing pair of wedges from Anthropologie. These trendy shoes would pair easily with everything from jeans to a cotton dress to a little black dress.

Have fun finding ways to incorporate this HOT summer trend into your wardrobe. Consider it an investment, the Chevron print won’t be leaving the spotlight anytime soon.

Help!

Good news.  We got the apartment!  {hands up & little booty shake}  So now that the "house" hunting has come to an end, let the decor fun begin!

This is my expertise {well, I'm not an expert but I do totally enjoy decorating}, however.  I'm at a standstill & I need your HELP.  You see, my last home was warm - hardwood floors throughout most of the place, warm colors on the walls, neutral textiles and dark wood furniture.  Several people who walked through my home said it had an "Anthropologie" feel, and to me, that was a compliment.  While I LOVE me some Anthro, it was never my intention to have that feel, it just sorta happened.  Hubby and I got married, acquired a few furnishings from my family, found a few craigslist gems and voila - we had a furnished home!  But this time I actually have an opportunity to decorate the place with purpose.  I have a chance to give it a real sense of my style.  And that's where my dilemma lies - I love two very different styles and yes, I can mix them and make it work, but I want to go all out - one way or the other.  I love modern - mostly white with a pop of bright color here and there, straight lines, clean, simplistic, chic.  While I also love Rustic/Eclectic - warm, woodsy, bright textiles with mixed colors, comfortable.  Like I said, I could totally mix the two styles and come up with my own unique blend of things, but for once I'd like to just go all out modern or all out rustic....what to do, what to do???

The apartment is SMALL - 1,000 sq ft smaller than what we're used to, so I don't want it to be cluttered.  {Not to mention, we just did a major overhaul of our belongings and shipped only the essentials.}  One thing I loved about the place when we did our first walk through is that it has lots of natural light, so despite it's size it actually feels quite roomy.  Another thing to consider is it's very tan {and can't be painted} - not a color I love, but one I'm willing to deal with.  I can see tan walls and tan carpet accompanied by warm furnishings - but just as easily I can see it accompanied by lots of white and bright colors here and there.  Starting to get my drift???  What do you think??  Any suggestions?  I need to decide fast - we move in Sat and we have NO furniture.  Help!

Here's a peek of our Florida home:  {this is for you Nicole}

{& the quality isn't so great - they were snapped on my phone before we began packing everything up}

{Entry Room}

{Living Room}

{Kitchen - and I thought this was small :}

{Master Bedroom}

And here's our new apartment:  {Lots of tan...}

{Bedroom}

{Bedroom}

And what I can't decide between:

{Clean. White. Light & Airy.}

{vs}

{Rustic. Eclectic. Anthropologie-esc.}

{but not so cluttered}

{Eclectic.}

What's the verdict?????

Effortless Style

I have to admit that after running in the FL heat this morning, I was less than motivated to do my full "pull it together" routine, so I simplified.  Blow drying the mess on my head was so not appealing after being in the heat for so long, so I threw that mess into a braid, pulled on my skinny jeans (the run gave me a little extra courage), grabbed a wadded up tank that had been sitting on my dryer for days (clean, I promise) and tied it all together with a scarf and a pair of new flats - that was easy!  Sometimes I make getting dressed a monumental task.  I don't leave my house too often during the day considering I teach from the comfort of my own home, but I still need to look presentable for "work".  A belt, blazer, scarf, fabric flower, headband, pair of cute shoes, brooch, or some sort of fun accessory can jazz up your usual jeans and tank look and make it just that much more "pulled together". Today was a good reminder that it can be easy if I let it - here are a few pics I looove from pinterest & other favorite sites that inspire me to keep it simple.

{Sharp Fedora from Francesca's}

{Fun Scarf from Forever 21 - $8.90, can't beat that price.}

{Headband from Anthropologie}

{Gorgeous cuff bracelet from White Owl. All of their pieces are beautiful}

Anthropologie Lust

I have yet to come across someone who doesn't just LOVE Anthropologie.  I don't know about you, but I can't help but be overwhelmed with inspiration the moment I step foot into one of their stores - something about it is just so creative and organic, comforting and welcoming, functional yet beautiful all the same time.  My dream job would be to travel the world and find the pieces that grace their window displays and catalog shoots.  I once read an article (I believe it was in Elle Decor Magazine) about the man who does just that - he literally gets paid to travel the most unique and exotic places throughout the world in search of those one-of-a-kind pieces that their store is brimming with.  What a job!

Here are a few of my favorite outfits, accessories, & furnishings from their March 2011 online catalog.  Hope this inspires you today as much as it did me!
