Fashion Friday : Nine to Five

9-5: Dress Me Up and Take Me Out! The Work Dress

{via shabby apple}

Hello there from FL, Chesli again for your Fashion Friday!

Probably the easiest outfit to put together for work is a dress...because you don't actually have to put it together. It's like the pop-tart of outfits. It's done in a ding, and I leave my closet singing, glory to the heavens, I'm going to be on time!

{via J.Crew}

But the best part to me about work dresses is that they can so easily transform into a dinner outfit, party outfit, anything-after-work outfit! If you need to, you can always throw on a blazer or cardigan to make it work appropriate, such as with a strapless dress.

I just stumbled upon the darlingest website of classy women's clothes under $100, shabby apple. Here are some of their looks...

I like to bring a change of shoes, a clutch, and fun accessories to exchange with my simple work accessories. Work dresses make such good bases to build upon.

Kick off your flats and strap on your boots!

 Or dress it up! I adore this feel of old, Hollywood class...

Would you wear a dress to work?

Happy dressing!

Fashion Friday : Nine to Five

9-5: Take me to new heights! The essential high-waisted skirt.

Hi All!

Chesli again.

I cannot tell you where I would be without my straight-as-a-pencil, waist-high skirts. I have come to find that these are essential to my work wardrobe and make any day more breezy. Skirts are my go-to when I want to be effortlessly professional and comfortable.

I ADORE adding a jacket to a high pencil skirt. It's such a great way to bring in texture and dimension.

You really can't go wrong with a high-waisted skirt. Just find one that flatters your curves and pair with any shirt: loose and easy button-downs, cap-sleeved, or a modest tank with a cardigan. Don't be afraid to try differently textured skirts.

I'm also loving the new peplum look, especially Modcloth's "Work With Me" dress that gives the pencil skirt + peplum top illusion but is really a dress. So cute and easy!

This brand, Nauticoco, even makes reversible and detachable peplums! How do ya like them apples? I'm thinking you could add them to a fitted dress, or even use them as a handy cover up for a too-short shirt or too-bunchy shirttail, or a skirt that takes a belt. I haven't seen these locally yet, but I sort of hope they come around soon!

That's all for today, folks! Skirts are about as feminine as it gets, so claim it and have fun with it. In the words of my aunt, "Whatever blows your skirt up!"

Fashion Friday : Flowy Summer Frocks

Friday + warm weather = the perfect opportunity to break out those summer dresses!  Whether it be a barbeque, a coffee date with a friend or a patio party - casual dresses are perfect for almost any occasion {given the sun is out}.

Light and airy, any one of these frocks would be adorable paired with bangles, long necklaces, bright sandals or shimmery flats and/or a cute clutch.  What do you think?

{I have the blue one & love it!}

Fashion Friday : Summer Trend - The Chevron Print

One  of the hottest prints this season is the Chevron print. This zig zag print is showing up on everything from couch pillows to blouses to throw rugs. Seen from the runways to gas stations and everywhere in between! If you do not already own at least one item in Chevron print, you should. This print is versatile and flattering on almost every body type.

For the warmer summer weather try a dress, cut just above the knee, in a bright color. The longer sleeves on this LaPosh dress will also carry you into Autumn and beyond without being too heavy for summer.

Another idea: Pair a Chevron print blouse with bright colored trousers and large, chunky jewelry. This combines several summer trends without looking like you are “trying to hard”. If you are wearing an oversized blouse, be sure to pair it with slim cut pants, so as not to add extra bulk to your outfit! Try Chevron shaped rings and bracelets to add pizzazz to your outfit.

A fabulous way to rock the Chevron print is with an amazing pair of wedges from Anthropologie. These trendy shoes would pair easily with everything from jeans to a cotton dress to a little black dress.

Have fun finding ways to incorporate this HOT summer trend into your wardrobe. Consider it an investment, the Chevron print won’t be leaving the spotlight anytime soon.

Fashion Friday : Mixing It Up

Since moving to Monterey, I've had to rethink my wardrobe. Tank tops, shorts, sandals and summer dresses aren't exactly my summer staples anymore - think jeans, flats and light cardigans.

Never in my life, did I imagine I'd be {comfortably} sporting jeans all year round. That said, I only have ONE pair of jeans at the moment. {I had two, but the second pair lost a button after several years of wear, so they're out.} With that, I'd say I'm in need of another pair...or five. Until I can splurge on a really great pair {I'm pretty picky about my denims, and I like to consider jeans as an "investment" if I'm going to be getting so much wear out of them} I'm trying to incorporate a few of my old summer go-to's without being too chilly. Thanks to pinterest, I can much better visualize my own wardrobe in several different ways. I'm now mixing my former summer with my former winter pieces to avoid spending a small fortune on entirely new clothes...tank tops + blazers, maxi dresses + cardigans + a belt, blouses + jeans + a scarf. Here are some of my favorite Photos of inspiration:

Fashion Friday : Nautical Prints for Summer

Hi All!

Jamie here from FashionistaMusings with your dose of Friday Fashion.

With Memorial Day behind us and the weather warming up for summer, our wardrobes become lighter and more colorful. Breathable fabrics, such as linen and cotton, and light reflecting colors allow us to enjoy the ever-rising temperatures without sweltering. Nautical Prints are the perfect combination of backyard summer Bar-B-Q meets Yacht Club chic. Classic Navy and White horizontal stripes can be paired with a wide range of colors including Red, Grey and Brown.

This Theory Striped Maxi dress with chunky wood jewelry and leather wedges paired with minimal makeup can be worn to brunch, an afternoon picnic in the park or a stroll through town.

Buy a Navy and White Striped Nautical Blouse and pair with pieces from your existing wardrobe for an instant summer update! White Jeans, a Red Skirt, Blue Jean Cut-Offs… the possibilities are endless.

{FIME}

Wedges are a summer wardrobe staple. Update your current shoe collection with a pair of nautical themed wedges (such as this pair from the Jessica Simpson Collection) for a water-ready look that is feminine and crisp.

For those of you who desire to try the nautical look without jumping into the water head first, try a Sailor themed manicure. Start with Navy nailpolish. Add thin white stripes. Finish with a Red heart for the extra touch of sparkle.

Do you love nautical prints? If so, how are you incorporating them into your wardrobe?

Happy Weekend!

Jamie
